West Ham appoint Guarino as Skinner replacement
West Ham have appointed Rita Guarino as their new head coach.
The Hammers have moved swiftly to replace Rehanne Skinner, who left the club last week with the club second from bottom in the Women's Super League table.
Italian coach Guarino has signed an 18-month contract with the Hammers and will take charge of her first match on Sunday 11 January against Chelsea in the Barclays Womens Super League.
She has also coached Italy's Under-17s and Inter Milan's women's team.
"Im so happy to be joining West Ham United, she told West Ham TV.
"It is a Club with a big history and strong values that align with my own.
"Ive spoken with the Board and Im really excited by the project here. There is a lot of talent and experience in the team, and I want to support the girls to develop as individuals but also as a collective.
"I want to build a team that is organised, aggressive with the ball and that tries to recognise and use space. The mentality of the team - the togetherness and hard work - is the most important thing.
"Im proud to be here and Im looking forward to the chapter ahead in the best league in the world."
Brighton intent on keeping Man Utd and Man City target Baleba until at least the summer
Latest from Your Site News' Adrian Kajumba:
Brighton are intent on keeping Carlos Baleba until the summer at least and only a huge offer would cause a rethink in January, Your Site News understands.
Despite failing to hit his previous heights so far this season, Baleba continues to be coveted by a number of top clubs.
Your Site News has already reported that the 21-year-old is on the list of midfielders Manchester United are looking at for next summer.
Baleba is also one of a number of midfielders Manchester City are monitoring as they look at potentially strengthening there next summer as well.
Baleba is currently away with Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations, which runs until January 18 and is seen as one of several hurdles in the way of trying to a deal in the upcoming window.
Another is Brightons intention to be well-covered themselves with a replacement, ready for when Baleba eventually moves on. Brighton have a history of impressive succession planning, with their central midfield area a prime example.
When they allowed Yves Bissouma to join Tottenham in 2022 they already had Moises Caicedo ready to step in. In August 2023, Caicedo was then sold to Chelsea and quickly succeeded by Baleba, who had moved to the Amex from Lille in the same month.
Brighton are expected to look at signing a long-term successor to Baleba as part of their January transfer plans, as well as potentially a newcomer at right-back and left sided centre-back. They could also look at new strikers too.

Amorim: We will not make mistakes in January, we will suffer
Ruben Amorim has confirmed Manchester United will not panic in the January transfer window as injury problems grow within his squad.
United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday and also lost Bruno Fernandes to a soft tissue injury during the game, with their captain forced off at half-time.
Kobbie Mainoo was also absent from the match-day squad with a small setback and both players will miss the Boxing Day clash against Newcastle.
What we cannot do is reach January and try to do everything in urgency and make mistakes," Amorim said.
"Then it is here we go again with mistakes. If we have to suffer, the club comes first.
"Of course, we need points. You can feel at this moment we are going to suffer.
